On this page we are proud to display a selection of the watercolours we have for sale.  Some are on display at Ashbourne Antiques Centre, in the beautiful Peak District town of Ashbourne.  We also take a selection to the antique fairs, where they decorate our stand and add to the whole experience of beauty on offer to our clients.

Artist Information.

Pollyanna Pickering.  Undoubtedly one of Europe's foremost wildlife artists, her work has been published in over 80 countries worldwide and she is the most published artist in the UK.

James Stephens Gresley (1829 - 1908).  Eldest and founding father of the Gresley family of artists in Derbyshire.  He regularly exhibited in Birmingham, then later in London from 1866-1883 including at the Royal Society of British Artists and Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours.

Frank Gresley (1855-1936).  Son of James Stephens Gresley and father of both Cuthbert and Harold.  A prolific painter, especially of scenes in the Trent valley close to his home in Chellaston, Derby.  His style closely follows that of his father.

Michael Crawley  A former Royal Crown Derby artist, Michael still lives and works in Derbyshire.  During his time at Crown Derby, he was responsible for decorating items given to both HM Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother and to Princess Anne on their visits to the factory.

Frederick Mercer  (act. 1875-1937).  He lived and painted in Birmingham and exhibited regularly at the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists between 1871 and 1911, 116 works in all.  He was elected an associate of the RBSA in 1888 and a full member in 1922.

Samuel Lines  (1778-1863).  A significant figure in the development of art in Birmingham, he was one of the founders of the life drawing academy that would evolve into the Royal Birmingham society of artists and Birmingham School of Art.

W L Appleton.  He lived at Didsbury and Withington in the Manchester area and exhibited between 1886-1895 at the Manchester Art Gallery.

John Porter Wale (1860 - 1920).  He was born in Worcester but moved to Derby in 1877 to join the Derby Crown Porcelain Company, which became Royal Crown Derby a few years later.  A very versatile artist, he went on to become head painter.  His watercolours were mainly of flowers and landscapes and he exhibited with the Royal Watercolour Society.

Nick Grant.  A prolific painter of watercolours from Nottingham.

Catherine Mary Pell (died 1990).  Trained as a ceramic artist, she worked at Royal Crown Derby from 1965 - 1970 specialising in hunting scenes and botanical subjects.  She has exhibited in London and was a Fellow of the Royal Society of Artists.

Edmund Morrison Wimperis (1835-1900).  Originally from Chester, he trained as a wood engraver before becoming a full time landscape watercolourist at the age of 38.  In 1874 he joined the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours, rising to becoming Vice-President in 1895.

Euphen Alexander (born 1918).  Born in Rangoon, she returned to her native Scotland at the age of 14.  She contracted spinal tuberculosis, developing her specialist skill as a flower painter whilst convalescing.  She was elected a member, and later President, of the Scottish Society of Women Artists and has exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy and the Glasgow Institute.
